Dynasty Leagues
      Q:  What is a Dynasty League ?

A:  A Dynasty League is the ultimate fantasy experience.  It is just like a keeper league, but in many instances you keep your whole team.

Here are 5 recommendations on starting a successful dynasty league.

Rule 1 :  This is the most important rule.  You need to find dedicated owners who are in it for the long haul.   It may be hard to find a
replacement owner if someone quits, especially if their team is terrible.

Rule 2 :   Design your league, where the team in last place can improve in the draft the following year.  Owners are more likely to quit
when they know they have no shot the following year.

Rule 3 :    Do not allow tanking in your league.  Maybe NBA teams do this to get more ping pong balls, but this doesn't mean it is
acceptable in fantasy leagues.   Watch player lineups in weekly sports, if someone is injured or on a bye, as commish
you should fix the lineup.  There is a lot of money on the line, and nobody wants to get knocked out of the playoffs because
someone is playing the inactive team.

Rule 4 :    Monitor trades.  Draft picks are important for rebuilding, but if someone is trading a star for some rookie flyers and some
draft picks, there is a problem, especially if that owner is out of it.   Nobody likes to veto a deal, but sometimes it has to
be done to keep league balanced.

Rule 5 :    Always look for ways to make your league better.  If it is adding a scoring category,  roster slots, pay per transaction,
                        transaction limits etc.

This is what I recommend for the following sports.

Football

  •        League size is important, you want at least 12 dedicated owners
  •        Starting rosters aren't that important, but i like 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF
  •        You want a big bench, because you want to be able to store keepers.  Nothing better than drafting Tony Romo to back up
Drew Bledsoe, and keep him for a year, and then BAM, he is a top 5 QB.  In a normal keeper league, Romo would have been
               put back into the draft.
  •        Add IR slots if available.  Some teams will end up dropping players because out for year, when they really shouldn't.
  •        Keepers at end of year, you keep everyone but 6 players.   These players go back into the draft pool.
  •        Draft is like the NFL draft where worst team picks first in each round.
  •        Rebuilding is quicker in the NFL as always impact rookies.  When you finish in last, and draft Adrian Peterson #1 overall, and the team
that won the league is stuck taking a WR project at pick #12, the balance of the league shifts pretty fast.  Balance is key.

 Baseball

  •        If doing a mixed league, you want 12 team.  If not everyone has an all-star team.
  •        Starting rosters, i like adding 3 util players to mix
  •        Minor leaguers, this is where the fun begins with prospects.   Have a minor league system.   Each team has 5 minor league spots.
These players can remain on your minor league team even if in the pros until they meet the following criteria 300 AB or 100 IP for
starters and 20 appearances for relievers.  This gives you plenty of time to see if a player is worth taking a roster spot up on your
               big league club.
  •        DL spots are so important, I recommend having 5 DL spots.  You are not usually going to have 5 guys on the DL at the same time.
This keeps owners from dropping players that shouldn't be dropped.  What happens is another owner has open DL spots, grabs
him and reaps the benefits when the player comes off the DL.
  •        Daily Transaction leagues are a must IMO, and I like H2H the best.
  •        Speaking of transactions, set a limit per week.  I think 3 a week is good.  This gives you enough flexibility to make moves during the
week, and also avoid people who like to pick up people every day to spam a stat.
  •       Scoring, 5v5 leagues are fun, but I like more.  I use a 8v8.  I added .OBP, K's, TB for offense, and L,K/9,IP to pitching.
  •        Keepers, you keep all of your minor league players which is nice, remember restrictions important, but I personally only like about
16 keepers, 8 & 8.  seems perfect, and allows the bottom teams to get some decent talent in next years draft considering the MLB
draft you don't see the players in bigs for a couple of years.

Basketball

  •        Like all dynasty leagues, you want at least 12 teams in the league.
  •        Starting rosters C,PF,SF,F,SG,PG,G,Util,Util,Util  & 6 bench
  •        At end of year, cut 6 players, and that is next years draft pool, along with the rookies
  •        Make sure you have Injured spots, in one dynasty league i was in Dwayne Wade was dropped because he was out for season.
  •        Limit weekly transactions to 3.  This is plenty of moves per week, otherwise in the playoff everyone is playing Flip Murray.
  •        Scoring categories, Pts, Oreb,Dreb, Asi, Blk, Stls, FG%,FT%, 3PM, Ast/To ratio, Turnovers
